Easy to install sheeted mosaic floor tiles

Our easy to install sheeted tiles come in a wide variety of materials, shapes and colors and are usually sold by the sheet for easier installation. Sheeted tiles enable the installation of multiple victorian tiles in one application. A mosaic pattern that features randomly placed colored tiles is more difficult to set than one that has regular geometric patterns — you have to balance color throughout.

Easy to install – how to avoid mistakes when applying sheeted mosaic tiles?

The mosaic is laid similarly to the tiling (on concrete, heated surface, drywall and on old glaze). However, unlike tiles, it is better to avoid cutting the mosaic. Each cube must be cut separately, which requires great precision and the use of professional and expensive tools.

That is why it is better to plan the mosaic arrangement in order to use ready-made elements such as sheeted mosaic tiles (the mosaic is “glued” onto paper, plastic tape or foil and most often sold in this form; rarely individual cubes are used).

Step by step sheeted mosaic tiles

We clean and dry the surface on which we will lay the tiles. The surface must be perfectly even, otherwise the tiles will bulge and may fall off over time. Sometimes the surface needs to be putty. Mix the adhesive with water according to the manufacturer’s specifications and apply a very thin layer to the surface with a trowel. Too thick adhesive will cause the tiles to collapse. Spread the mortar with a comb with the smallest teeth.  We also apply glue to the mosaic sheet to increase its adhesion. We put sheets at destinations with the help of a spirit level. We put spacer crosses between the mosaic cubes – this is especially important when connecting sheets. The crosses allow you to keep an appropriate distance. If we apply the decoration to a round surface, then on convex arches the width of joints perpendicular to the curve of curvature increases, and on concave ones – the edges will approach each other. We must compensate for these inaccuracies. Glue with extended drying time can make the task easier. After leveling – press the whole thing with a float. This should be done gently and with sensitivity so that the tiles do not sink in and all the effort is not wasted.

Filling the space between the cubes

Grouting can be started after at least a day after gluing. The epoxy grout works best in the bathroom. We use a spatula for this, apply the mass in fragments, after drying remove excess with a moist sponge. However, it should be remembered that the epoxy grout is laid from 2.5 mm.
